In November 2023, amidst the height of a global AI boom, OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever teamed with the company board to make one of the defining decisions that has drastically reshaped the company as we know it, the firing of current CEO Sam Altman. This controversial decision would lead to immense backlash, ultimately resulting in Altman's return five days later.

About Artificial

Artificial is a 2026 biographical comedy-drama film directed and co-produced by Luca Guadagnino and written by Simon Rich. It stars Andrew Garfield as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and centers on his controversial firing and rehiring in 2023, a movement led by Ilya Sutskever (Yura Borisov). The ensemble cast also features Monica Barbaro, Cooper Hoffman, Jason Schwartzman, Chris O'Dowd, Ike Barinholtz, and Mark Rylance. The film premiered at the 2026 New York Film Festival on October 5, and is expected to be theatrically released in the United States by Neon on December 25. It received positive reviews from critics.
