About Fwends

Fwends is a 2025 film directed by Sophie Somerville, shot on location in Melbourne, Australia. It stars Emmanuelle Mattana and Melissa Gan as two friends, Em and Jessie, who reunite for the first time in years one Christmas season and spend a weekend bonding and coming to terms with the ways in which they have changed. Somerville stated she wished to make "a portrait of relatable female angst that finds joy, wonder and a glimmer of madness along the way" and was inspired by My Dinner with Andre. There was a treatment but no script; the dialogue was entirely improvised. Fwends premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival, where it won the Innovation Award.
